As I've already mentioned, this board is a work in progress. I am still figuring out categories and settings and hope to 'go live' and make a formal announcement this week. For now, it seems like there is some interest in this board and we are already getting a few members. Please feel free to introduce yourself and the rescue you are affiliated with and anything else you would like to share. Photos of four legged children are always fun.

Well I'll be the first one to get started on this boat then. My name is Amanda and I'm currently located in Lakewood, WA. We are in the process of buying a facility located in Tacoma, WA where we plan to donate 18 stalls to SAFE for their program and then rescue and rehabilitate horses throughout the year in our own program. Unfortunately because of the nature of our program, we cannot be considered a rescue organization for horses. (I'm working on fixing that)

Welcome, Amanda!
Wow, that's great! It sounds like your facility is going to be huge. Good luck with getting your non-profit/rescue status.

Yeah it's kinda just a technicality. We are rescuing horses to be rehabilitated by children and young adults who are in troubled situations (divorce, foster homes and what not). I got the idea off the TV about a year ago when I was watching these mustangs being trained by guys in prison. They aren't really "working" with the horses (training) but socializing and riding the ridable ones (since in theory they are rescues, most will not be ridable or trainable for a while.) Gives them something to focus on other than the bad things in their lives. But! Since that is what the program is, it's not a rescue. But I'm working with the people who i need to. to break it down so it works as a rescue also.

Hi there! My names Liz, some of you might recognize me as LizStabbertPhoto on the SAFE forum. I moved to Monroe a couple of months ago, putting me in prime SAFE territory I haven't got the property to foster or adopt a horse at the moment so I try to help out wherever I can. I'm working on getting a day set up to help out with the SAFE horses at Edensgate which will be fun I've also done some volunteering with Families Against Breed Bans fabbseattle.com which is a group that works to prevent breed specific laws and promote responsible dog ownership of all breeds. I have a two year old who-knows-what-mutt named Samantha who I adopted from a shelter at 10 months. I'm hoping to start riding lessons again soon (been off since august!) but we'll see what the pocket book allows I'm also an equine photographer and am working on getting my business going in the Monroe area. Amanda, that sounds like it will be awesome! Having that many stalls available to SAFE would be amazing!

Another Liz here (aka Buena or RockinCircleC depending on when/where I registered). Still in Enumclaw, too close to the auction but thankfully have have a strong stomach and strong willpower. I am happy to help with networking and occasional transportation or other stuff. I primarily am doing solo stuff at the moment and served on the SAFE BoD for a time last year.
