Cowgirl Spirit Rescue Drill Team is so lucky to have a wonderful property donated for our rescues. We have 10+ acres of pasture and turn out, as well as a large building to house our horses in the wet, cold weather. The only downside is that this building only has a roof - so when it's windy out, the rain (or snow, in tonight's case) blows inside. But the horses seem to be happy and comfy. I just got home from a Christmas party and decided to give the horses a little something to warm their insides. They were fed dinner at 4:30pm, but it's a long time yet before the AM feeding. And with this unusual cold spell, I'd like to prevent any colics or other illnesses. So, each horse got a scoop of hay pellets and Wellsolve L/S (Purina's low starch complete feed), mixed with probiotics and electrolytes. Then, added about 1/2 gallon of hot tap water. All of the horses dug right into it, though ever-the-comedian Dollar, felt he needed to dump his out. *sigh* Here's a few pics of some of our rescues enjoying their 'midnight mash' tonight. See the blowing snow in the pictures and on the ground? Blech! It's 28 degrees here and windy - and snowing. Make sure your horses are extra warm during this cold time!

That's great advice, Juliane! HAHA! Dollar just likes to keep it interesting. My boy did the same thing with his hay pellets when I fed them in a feed pan. Now I feed them in a bucket hung on the wall and he still manages to spread it all over the wall and stall door and then lick it up. Today when I gave him his warm hay mush he just sniffed it and went back to eating his hay. Apparently it's not as much fun to eat the green goop and spread it all over the walls when he needs to eat the green goop. Silly ponies.

Yep! She sure was. She came off the Yakima feedlot in March 2006. She was an unhandled, somewhat agreesive mare and ended up being a tough nut to crack! However, we finally got through to her and she competed all last year on the drill team! She made a remarkable turnaround and is now adopted in the perfect forever home as a pleasure, endurance trail mount. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome for Salsa
